Yorktown is an unincorporated hamlet community 40 miles north of New York City. Yorktown real estate offers higher priced modern homes to affordable 3 bedroom houses, and scenic waterfront property. It is one of five hamlets that make up the town of Yorktown; the other four are Shrub Oak, Jefferson Valley, Crompond and Mohegan. Framed by Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Amawalk Reservoir and New Croton Reservoir, Yorktown Heights offers a quiet and scenic lifestyle. A central location within Westchester County near several major roadways adds convenience as well. With a reasonably affluent population of about 8,000 residents, it isn’t surprising that Yorktown Heights has a cozy, community-oriented atmosphere. Fun annual events include Yorktown’s Firemen's Parade, Carnival and country fair known as the Yorktown Grange. Nearby attractions like Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Mohansic County Park, Yorktown Museum and Katonah Museum of Art serve the recreational and cultural needs of the community. Although home to IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights is predominantly residential; many residents commute to White Plains or New York City for employment. These two destinations are 20 miles and 40 miles, respectively, from the area. Public education is provided by two different school districts, Yorktown Central School District and Lakeland Central School District. Yorktown Central School District operates three elementary campuses, one middle school and Yorktown High School. Lakeland Central School District has two elementary schools, one middle school and an alternative high school.
